Four years ago today, August 18, 2022, a handful of people who loved the culture and chaos of Web3 dropped something they were not supposed to take seriously. Ten thousand hand-drawn bearded characters. A wild degen parody. They called it Lazy Apes.
It sold out in two weeks. What followed was not ordinary — and it still isn’t. Most digital collectibles begin as original art and later inspire cheap spin-offs.
